Shift Engineer - Electrical Maintenance

About the role

A client of Shugulika Africa Limited, a leading manufacturer, is looking for a Shift Engineer (Electrical Maintenance) in Dar es Salaam. The engineer ensures the smooth operation, maintenance and reliability of electrical systems during their assigned shifts, working on preventive and breakdown maintenance, troubleshooting and coordination with production teams.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure uninterrupted operation of all electrical systems during the shift.
• Carry out preventive, breakdown and corrective maintenance of electrical equipment and systems.
• Operate, monitor and maintain HT/LT panels, MCC panels, PLC panels, VFDs, motors, drives, sensors and control systems.
• Resolve electrical breakdowns quickly to minimise production downtime.
• Coordinate with production and mechanical teams for effective line support.
• Monitor power consumption and load distribution and support energy-efficiency initiatives.
• Comply with electrical safety standards, LOTO procedures and electrical SOPs.
• Maintain shift logs, breakdown reports and maintenance records.
• Support installation, commissioning and modification of electrical systems and machinery.
• Guide and supervise technicians and helpers during shift activities.

Required profile

• Diploma, BE or BTech in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
• Minimum 1-3 years of experience in electrical maintenance in a manufacturing, FMCG or industrial plant setting.
• Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems and machine maintenance.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
• Good communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
• Responsibility, attention to detail and ability to work independently during shifts.

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with PLC basics, sensors, drives and control systems.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and root cause analysis.
• Awareness of ISO, GMP and industrial safety standards (preferred).
