Senior Accountant

About the role

The Senior Accountant will oversee project and organisational financial operations for Burhani Power Engineers Ltd, ensuring accuracy, compliance and robust internal controls. This role provides strategic support in budgeting, tax compliance, financial reporting and audit readiness, acting as a key financial advisor to management and project teams.

Key responsibilities

• Authorize and process invoices, payments, reimbursements and other project‑related financial transactions.
• Maintain accurate financial records in the accounting system and review journal entries for proper classification.
• Lead monthly reconciliations of bank, supplier, inter‑company and general‑ledger accounts, resolving complex discrepancies.
• Prepare, review and consolidate project budgets, forecasts and financial plans; monitor actual spend against budgets and produce variance analysis.
• Ensure spending aligns with approved work plans, donor requirements and company financial policies.
• Maintain full compliance with internal policies, donor regulations, statutory requirements and accounting standards (IFRS/GAAP).
• Strengthen and enforce internal control systems to safeguard assets and prevent fraud.
• Lead audit preparation, maintain complete documentation and liaise with external auditors to resolve findings.
• Produce timely financial reports and supporting documentation for management and stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a senior accounting role within a project‑oriented environment.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS and GAAP accounting standards.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
• Experience preparing for and coordinating external audits.
• Solid understanding of internal control frameworks and compliance requirements.
