Programme Specialist, Gender & Youth Empowerment

About the role

The Programme Specialist, Gender & Youth Empowerment is based in the UNFPA Tanzania Country Office. The role leads efforts to advance gender equality and economic empowerment of women and young people, addressing discriminatory norms that limit access to sexual and reproductive health and rights, and contribute to gender‑based violence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide functional leadership for programme design, delivery, stakeholder engagement and knowledge management.
• Support adolescent and youth groups to ensure meaningful participation in SRHR, GBV prevention and peace‑responsive initiatives.
• Coordinate with UN entities, national partners, civil society and youth networks to promote gender‑transformative and intersectional approaches.
• Oversee monitoring, evaluation and reporting to contribute to the Country Programme and UNFPA’s transformative results.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in gender equality, youth development and women’s empowerment programmes.
• Strong understanding of sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender‑based violence prevention and economic empowerment strategies.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including government, NGOs and youth networks.
• Excellent communication, analytical and leadership skills.
