Program Manager – Lead Poisoning Prevention (Tanzania)

About the role

Vital Strategies is seeking a Program Manager to lead its Lead Poisoning Prevention programme in Tanzania. The role will provide technical and programmatic support to strengthen health‑system capacity, oversee field research, and coordinate surveillance activities aimed at reducing childhood lead exposure.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with environmental health scientists, epidemiologists, clinicians and statisticians to design and implement the lead poisoning prevention programme.
• Build capacity of government and non‑government staff to operate the programme and conduct blood‑lead surveillance.
• Develop and standardise a surveillance framework, obtain ethical approvals and monitor field surveillance teams.
• Organise technical discussions, train journalists and facilitate policy‑analysis workshops.
• Deliver training sessions for health officials, frontline workers and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Background in public health, epidemiology or environmental health.
• Experience working on health programmes in low‑ and middle‑income countries.
• Proven ability to engage high‑level government officials and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong programme management and capacity‑building skills.
