Programme Specialist – Population Dynamics & Policy

About the role

The Programme Specialist, Population Dynamics & Policy, supports the UNFPA Representative and Deputy Representative in providing strategic leadership on demographic intelligence and policy integration across mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. The role bridges data, policy and programming to ensure evidence‑based development outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse trends in population dynamics and their linkages to social and policy environments.
• Provide technical leadership and advisory support to advance rights‑based population and development policies at national and sectoral levels.
• Strengthen national population data systems and promote the use of demographic intelligence for planning, budgeting and decision‑making.
• Lead the research agenda on population change and contribute to UNFPA’s transformative results.
• Maintain collaborative relationships with government ministries, parliamentary mechanisms, multilateral and bilateral agencies, academia, think‑tanks and civil society.

Required profile

• Proven experience in population dynamics, demographic analysis or related policy work.
• Strong understanding of national development frameworks such as the National Development Plan and Vision 2050.
• Experience working with UN agencies, government bodies or international development partners.
• Ability to translate data insights into actionable programmatic recommendations.
