National Consultant – Women’s Access to Justice & Leadership (Tanzania)

About the role

UN Women is seeking a National Consultant to support the implementation of its Equality in Law for Women and Girls (EVAW) Programme in Tanzania. The consultant will work closely with government partners, civil society and UN Women staff to advance women’s access to justice and strengthen women’s leadership at national and local levels.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the design, coordination and monitoring of interventions aimed at improving gender‑responsive justice systems.
• Support the development and delivery of survivor‑support services and legal aid mechanisms.
• Facilitate multi‑stakeholder dialogues to address gaps in legislation and implementation.
• Provide technical input for the National Plans of Action to End Violence Against Women and Children.
• Collect, analyse and report data on programme outcomes and impact.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in law, gender studies, public policy or a related field.
• Minimum five years of professional experience in gender‑focused justice reform, preferably in Tanzania or a similar context.
• Demonstrated experience working with government agencies, NGOs and international organisations.
• Strong understanding of Tanzanian legal frameworks and international gender‑rights instruments.
