Mail and Pouch Assistant (Contractor)

About the role

The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) is seeking a dedicated Mail and Pouch Assistant on an individual contractor basis. Based in Arusha, the role supports the General Services Section by ensuring efficient processing, documentation, tracking, and distribution of all incoming and outgoing mail, pouch shipments, and courier deliveries.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and manage pouch dispatch documentation, tags, and daily logs for scheduled airline destinations.
• Track and record the distribution of mail and pouch services, ensuring accurate records for incoming and outgoing items.
• Sign for valuable items, sort shipments by pouch, mail, or contracted shippers, and guarantee timely delivery of urgent and confidential correspondence.
• Deliver sensitive letters and documents by hand to embassies, ministries, UN agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
• Receive, log, and forward certified, registered, and express mail, as well as courier deliveries, to the appropriate offices.
• Assist with opening and inspecting dispatch items to ensure compliance with mail and pouch regulations.
• Support staff with travel document delivery to the Arusha Immigration Office and registration with the Tanzanian Revenue Authority for tax identification numbers.
• Perform ad‑hoc operational tasks as assigned by the Logistics Operations Officer.

Required profile

• Successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum two years of experience handling mail, parcels, or logistics in an administrative setting.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
• Good organizational skills and ability to work under general supervision.
