Legal Officer – Tanzania (Dar es Salaam)

About the role

We are seeking a Tanzania‑qualified Legal Officer to join our regional legal team in Dar es Salaam. The role provides day‑to‑day legal support for our Tanzanian operations and other countries in the cluster, acting as an in‑house partner to business teams.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts such as procurement, service, distribution and partnership agreements.
• Identify legal and business risks and deliver practical, solution‑oriented advice.
• Develop, update and review internal policies, procedures and codes of conduct to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Monitor regulatory changes in Tanzania and other covered jurisdictions and advise stakeholders.
• Manage corporate governance matters for local and regional subsidiaries, including board meetings, resolutions and statutory filings.
• Provide legal opinions on pre‑litigation disputes, claims and regulatory inquiries, and support external counsel in arbitration or litigation.
• Collaborate with country managers and functional heads to address cross‑border legal needs.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from a recognized university and a Post‑Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (PGDLP) from Tanzania.
• 1–2 years of post‑qualification experience, preferably in corporate/commercial practice.
• Solid understanding of Tanzanian contract, company and labour law; regional legal frameworks are a plus.
• Some hands‑on experience with dispute resolution, arbitration or litigation support.
• Native‑level English (written and spoken); Swahili proficiency is advantageous.
