Legal Manager & Company Secretary

About the role

PalmPay is seeking a seasoned Legal Manager & Company Secretary to lead regulatory compliance, manage legal risks, and ensure robust corporate governance across its fast‑growing fintech operations in Tanzania. The role combines strategic legal counsel with board‑level governance responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely legal advice to line management on business matters, especially fintech products such as digital payments, lending and recovery.
• Draft, review, and approve contracts, monitor compliance, and manage the contracting process in line with delegation authority.
• Oversee outsourced legal services, including SLA management with external providers.
• Manage disputes, litigation, and represent the company before courts and dispute resolution bodies.
• Act as primary advisor to the board on fiduciary duties and corporate governance best practices.
• Coordinate board and committee meetings, prepare agendas, distribute board packs, and record accurate minutes.
• Handle all statutory filings with BRELA and maintain up‑to‑date company records.
• Serve as Data Protection Officer, liaise with the PDPC, implement the privacy framework, and manage data subject access requests and breach responses.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a valid High Court of Tanzania practising licence.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in banking, telecom or fintech legal functions.
• Demonstrated regulatory experience with BOT, TCRA, PDPC, Companies Act, or similar authorities.
