About the role
The Office of the President of the United Nations International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals is seeking a Legal Affairs Intern to join its team in Arusha, Tanzania. This full‑time, in‑person internship starts on or after 3 August 2026 and lasts between three and six months, with a six‑month period encouraged for a comprehensive experience.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive legal research on relevant statutes, case law, and international legal instruments.
- Assist in drafting, proofreading, and finalising judicial decisions, orders, and other legal documents.
- Support the preparation of reports for the United Nations Security Council and General Assembly.
- Analyse applicable laws, rules, and policies to inform the President’s mandate.
- Help draft speeches, official correspondence, and press materials.
- Provide assistance on press and policy matters as needed.
- Contribute to the management, retention, and disposition of records.
- Perform routine tasks such as compiling and collecting materials.
Required profile
- Enrolled in or having completed the final academic year of a law degree (minimum bachelor’s level) or a graduate law programme (Master’s or higher).
- No professional work experience required.
- Fluency in English is mandatory; working knowledge of French is desirable.
- Knowledge of Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian or Kinyarwanda is an advantage.
