Laboratory Scientist – Remnant Sample Mapping Study

About the role

Ifakara Health Institute is seeking a qualified Laboratory Scientist to support the NMBiS Project in implementing the Remnant Sample Mapping Study across selected regions in mainland Tanzania. The role involves assessing biological sample storage, quality and management practices across selected health facilities and laboratories.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory and health facility assessments
• Evaluate biological sample storage conditions
• Document sample inventories
• Assess specimen quality and metadata
• Support data collection and contribute to study reports
• Take part in quality assurance activities

Required profile

• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Laboratory Sciences, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Clinical Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Public Health Laboratory Sciences or a related field
• At least two years of experience in laboratory research, specimen management, biobanking or public health biomedical research

Required skills

• Experience with biological specimens, field-based research and health facility assessments is required
• Experience with electronic data collection platforms such as ODK or KoboTool is an added advantage
