Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Specialist

About the role

Plan International is recruiting an SRHR Specialist for a project implemented by GIZ in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the Prime Minister's Office for Regional Administration and Local Government, focused on the Tanga Region. The project aims to empower young people, especially young women, to make informed decisions about their health and future. The role reports to the Project Manager and is open only to candidates with the pre-existing right to live and work in Tanzania.

Key responsibilities

• Lead planning and implementation of school- and out-of-school youth-club-based SRHR and life-skills interventions, including training teachers and youth facilitators on sexual and reproductive health education, life skills and gender and inclusion
• Ensure age-appropriate SRHR knowledge transfer to adolescents and young people, aligned with national health guidelines and youth-friendly service standards
• Support cooperation between schools, youth clubs and health facilities, including mutual visits and outreach by health workers, to strengthen access to services and referral pathways
• Design and facilitate gender-transformative dialogues with local opinion leaders, using health-based evidence to address social norms and reduce teenage pregnancies
• Coordinate baseline, midline and endline assessments with the external service provider and support orientation of Ward Education Coordinators and Village/Ward Executive Officers on SRHR topics
• Contribute to reporting, documentation of lessons learned and safeguarding compliance

Required profile

• Master's degree in public health, medicine, nursing, social sciences, education or gender studies
• 5 years of professional experience in SRHR or adolescent and youth health programmes
• 5 years designing and implementing SRHR knowledge transfer interventions for adolescents and young people
• 5 years engaging community, opinion, religious or other gatekeeper leaders on sensitive SRHR topics
• 5 years applying gender-transformative approaches and 5 years working in an international organisation
• Knowledge of English and Kiswahili
