Lab Assistant PRN

About the role

The Lab Assistant PRN provides essential support to the clinical laboratory, performing phlebotomy and specimen processing on an as‑needed basis. This position ensures accurate testing, proper documentation, and compliance with hospital policies while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy on patients of all ages using two patient identifiers per hospital policy.
• Conduct waived testing within required turnaround times and handle specimens according to laboratory guidelines.
• Document and report unacceptable specimens, notifying appropriate staff.
• Operate the laboratory computer system, manage supplies and reagents, and participate in weekly inventory counts.
• Execute quality control procedures, address pending specimen issues, and troubleshoot problems.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferably certified as a phlebotomist (PBT/ASCP) with at least six months experience or completion of a one‑semester phlebotomy course.
• Good communication skills and ability to prioritize tasks in stressful situations.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
