Junior NPD Engineer

About the role

A client in the manufacturing industry, represented by Shugulika Africa Limited, is looking for a Junior NPD Engineer in Dar es Salaam. The engineer supports the design, development, testing and industrialization of new products from concept through production, working hands-on on prototyping and validation and collaborating with production, quality, procurement and supply chain teams.

Key responsibilities

• Support the design and development of new products from concept to production release.
• Prepare and modify engineering drawings, CAD models and technical documentation.
• Assist in prototype fabrication, assembly and functional testing.
• Conduct product validation, performance testing and data analysis to ensure design reliability and compliance.
• Participate in design reviews, technical discussions and problem-solving sessions.
• Support manufacturing process development, tooling trials and pilot production runs.
• Assist in material selection, BOM preparation and cost optimization.
• Document engineering changes, test results and development progress accurately.
• Support continuous product improvement and process optimization.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 1 year of experience in a manufacturing, production, quality or engineering environment, or strong project-based experience through internships, academic or personal projects.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals, materials and manufacturing processes.
• Practical exposure to prototyping, testing and hands-on engineering.
• Excellent communication, teamwork and organizational skills, with attention to detail and quality.

Required skills

• Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360 or CATIA.
• Analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• High learning agility and curiosity.

Plus points: product development projects, design competitions or prototype builds; basic knowledge of DFM/DFA, GD&T and engineering documentation standards; factory or workshop experience; interest in product innovation.
