Head of Business Development

About the role

WaterAid Tanzania is seeking a dynamic leader to head its Business Development function. The role will drive fundraising and partnership strategies to secure a diversified, sustainable funding base that supports the organization’s mission of universal access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with WaterAid Tanzania’s strategic objectives.
• Identify, pursue and secure new funding opportunities from institutional, corporate and philanthropic donors.
• Lead the preparation of high‑quality proposals, concept notes and donor communications.
• Manage donor relationships, providing intelligence, market insights and strategic engagement.
• Coordinate consortium building and partnership development for large‑scale funding bids.
• Build internal fundraising capacity through coaching, compliance guidance and resource mobilisation support.
• Maintain robust knowledge‑management systems, including donor mapping, reporting and database management.
• Ensure all business development activities comply with safeguarding, health, safety and security standards.

Required profile

• Proven senior fundraising leader with a strong record in resource mobilisation, donor relations and partnership building.
• Master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Extensive experience in fundraising, donor engagement and business development within the non‑profit sector.
• Demonstrated ability to influence policy, promote innovation and advance gender equality and inclusion.
