Country Manager – Tanzania

About the role

Maersk is looking for a Tanzania Country Manager based in Dar es Salaam, reporting to the Eastern Africa Area MD. The role leads the Maersk organization in Tanzania and manages teams in Dar es Salaam, Tanga and Zanzibar, and is part of the Area Leadership Team. It is accountable for the country's end-to-end leadership, strategy and sustainable performance, owning the country P&L and driving growth in logistics and services, first-mile operations, depot activities, fleet management, customer experience, safety, compliance and stakeholder engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the Tanzania country strategy aligned with area, regional and global priorities, and own the country P&L with revenue, gross profit, EBIT, cash, cost and productivity targets.
• Drive growth and customer leadership: acquire, retain and expand share of wallet with strategic customers, and accelerate profitable growth across integrated logistics and services offerings.
• Lead the Tanzania logistics and services portfolio, including first-mile, depot and fleet operations, with KPIs for service reliability, productivity, safety, cost and customer outcomes.
• Manage transporters, vendors and depot partners through service levels, performance reviews and risk controls, and ensure compliance with Tanzanian laws and regulations.
• Represent Maersk with customers, partners, government institutions and regulatory bodies, anticipating regulatory changes and protecting the company's reputation.
• Build and develop the Country Leadership Team, attract and retain talent, and lead change with empathy.
• Ensure compliance with Tanzanian laws, safety, risk management, crisis management and business continuity readiness.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, supply chain, engineering, economics or a related discipline; MBA or professional certification advantageous.
• Substantial senior leadership experience in logistics, supply chain, transportation, freight forwarding or shipping, with proven ownership of a sizeable P&L.
• Experience leading first-mile, depot and fleet operations, and leading teams across commercial, operations, customer experience, finance and other functions.
• Strong commercial experience in business development, account leadership, solution selling, pricing and contract negotiation.
• Fluent written and spoken English; working proficiency in Kiswahili strongly preferred.
• Willingness to travel within Tanzania and across the wider area as required.
