Country Accountant (Dar es Salaam)

About the role

Rentokil Initial is seeking a Country Accountant to support its East Africa operations from the Dar es Salaam office. The role will ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with Tanzanian tax regulations, and effective day‑to‑day accounting processes.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts in line with IFRS and internal policies.
• Prepare trial balances, balance‑sheet reconciliations and manage month‑end and year‑end close cycles.
• Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable, including vendor payments, credit control and ageing analysis.
• Execute weekly and monthly bank reconciliations for all local Tanzanian bank accounts.
• Process petty‑cash claims, ensuring proper documentation and monthly reconciliation.
• Review and post staff operational and travel expense forms.
• Ensure full compliance with Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) regulations, preparing and filing VAT returns via the EFD/VFD system and calculating withholding tax.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant with proven experience in Tanzanian financial and tax regulations.
• Strong understanding of IFRS and internal accounting standards.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet strict reporting deadlines.

Required skills

• Knowledge of IFRS accounting standards.
• Experience with VAT filing through EFD/VFD systems.
• Proficiency in bank reconciliation processes.
