Associate Professor, Nursing & Midwifery (SONAM)

About the role

The Aga Khan University seeks an Associate Professor for its School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONAM) in Dar es Salaam. The role combines high‑quality teaching, clinical instruction, and academic leadership to advance nursing and midwifery education.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the approved curriculum and deliver teaching in classroom and clinical settings.
• Prepare and manage a master plan for student clinical placements.
• Monitor theoretical and clinical teaching activities and provide academic support to students and colleagues.
• Compile academic results and clinical evaluations within set deadlines.
• Collaborate with the curriculum committee to improve courses based on feedback.
• Ensure quality clinical learning opportunities by securing sites and preceptors.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with clinical facilities and research partners.
• Contribute to nursing and midwifery knowledge through research, publications, and continuous professional development.
• Participate in university administrative and management activities, including professional development initiatives and academic events.
• Orient new teachers, support programme delivery, and perform any other duties assigned by the Vice Dean.

Required profile

• Doctorate (PhD) in Nursing, Midwifery or a related Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health field.
• Minimum 3 years teaching experience as an Assistant Professor and at least 5 years clinical experience in nursing/midwifery.
• Demonstrated expertise in the relevant nursing/midwifery discipline and a strong record of research and publications.
• Experience in curriculum and course development (preferred).
• Diploma or Certificate in Education or equivalent.
• Current registration with the Nursing and/or Midwifery Regulatory Body.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and counselling skills.
• Proficiency with computer software, digital teaching tools, and varied instructional strategies.
