Assistant Accountant – Reconciliation & Cash Flow Management

About the role

The Assistant Accountant will support the finance team by managing cash flow, reconciling client and intermediary accounts, and ensuring timely resolution of queries. This role is critical for maintaining accurate premium collections and supporting credit control across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor daily cash flow and enforce cash‑before‑cover policy.
• Collect premiums, allocate daily receipts to customer accounts, and verify premium payments before claim processing.
• Reconcile intermediary balances, ensuring no unreconciled items older than 30 days and send monthly statements.
• Liaise with underwriters on fund postings and support strategic premium‑collection initiatives.
• Respond promptly to client, agency, and regional credit‑control queries.
• Prepare and reconcile commission reports for payment in the first week of each month.
• Issue outstanding statements by the 10th of each month and assist with regional expansion tasks.
• Track performance metrics such as debtor ratio and turnaround times for receipts, commissions, and reconciliations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related business discipline.
• 2–3 years of experience in a similar accounting or reconciliation role.
• Knowledge of insurance regulatory requirements.
• Familiarity with Britam insurance products.
