Accountant

About the role

A manufacturing company based in Dar es Salaam is looking for a trustworthy accountant who can work efficiently without sacrificing accuracy. The role involves working with large amounts of numerical data, handling multiple tasks with deadlines and providing clear reports to management. It requires a solid grasp of accounting, financial and operational practices and regulations, and strong computer, verbal and written communication skills.

Key responsibilities

• Handle cash withdrawals and disbursements, prepare payroll and process salary payments for local and expatriate staff
• Keep financial records and reports accurate, and prepare salary and expense reports for the head office
• File monthly, half-yearly and yearly returns (PAYE, SDL, VAT, NSSF, etc.) and attend TRA queries and auditor coordination
• Ensure tax compliance and avoid penalties
• Recruit local staff, prepare contracts, register employees on NSSF, PAYE and WCF portals, and handle worker complaints and disputes
• Process business visas and work permits for expatriates, manage their insurance policies and liaise with insurers on claims and medical policies
• Handle police cases related to theft or disputes and ensure labour law compliance
• Oversee machinery and premises maintenance, repairs and facility upgrades, and coordinate vendor returns and scrap stock
• Manage petty cash, supplier payments and reconciliations, and post production orders and track inventory
• Conduct physical stock counts, reconcile discrepancies, monitor consumables and handle internal stock transfers

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field
• Experience in handling operations
• Understanding of mathematics, accounting and financial processes
• Attention to detail
