Tax Accountant

About the role

Shugulika Africa Limited is hiring a Tax Accountant in Dar es Salaam on a full-time basis. The role covers preparing and filing tax returns, managing tax reconciliations and ensuring compliance with Tanzanian tax regulations, working closely with the Head of Finance.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and file tax returns, arrange tax payments and keep all supporting documents and reports.
• Manage tax reconciliations, including VAT, employment taxes and withholding tax.
• Research and assess complex tax matters and recommend solutions; review tax regulations and recommend policies to improve tax efficiency.
• Maintain accurate tax records and the company's tax database, and prepare quarterly and annual tax reports.
• Identify tax-saving opportunities and prepare tax forecasts for management.
• Support training and knowledge sharing to improve tax awareness and record-keeping.
• Review contracts from a tax perspective and support local transfer pricing compliance and documentation.
• Assist with tax audits by gathering and analysing data, supporting auditors and drafting responses to tax authorities.
• Liaise with the Tanzania Revenue Authority and other regulatory bodies under the guidance of the Head of Finance.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
• ACCA or CPA qualification.
• At least three years of experience as a Tax Accountant or in a similar role.
• Strong understanding of Tanzanian tax regulations and statutory compliance requirements.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software.
• In-depth knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping processes.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
