Technical Specialist – Underground HME Maintenance

About the role

The Underground HME Maintenance Specialist will support the Asset Management and Engineering function of a leading gold mining operation in Tanzania. You will diagnose faults, perform breakdown repairs, and coach local mechanics to raise technical capability.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults on underground heavy mining equipment to OEM standards.
• Provide expert technical support, develop scopes and work packages for major maintenance projects.
• Lead on‑the‑job training, maintain training registers and improve competency of national mechanics.
• Conduct daily equipment inspections, monitor work quality and produce repair reports with photographic evidence.
• Identify and control workplace hazards, ensuring compliance with safety policies.
• Collaborate with planners to optimise spares under VMI arrangements and raise backlog work for upcoming services.

Required profile

• Relevant trade test; trainer/coach certification or diploma preferred.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience maintaining underground heavy mining equipment.
• Extensive experience with Sandvik and Caterpillar equipment.
• Proven ability to plan and execute major component and undercarriage replacements.
• Strong diagnostic capability in both mechanical and electrical systems, including remote underground systems.
• Demonstrated coaching and development of mechanics with solid communication and teamwork skills.
