Land Transport Specialist (Custom Clearance)

About the role

The Land Transport Specialist (Custom Clearance) ensures smooth import and export processes by managing all customs documentation and coordinating with relevant authorities in Tanzania. This role supports the logistics team by monitoring shipments, calculating duties, and maintaining compliance with local and international trade regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, review and submit customs declarations, permits, invoices, packing lists and certificates of origin for import and export clearance.
• Liaise with the Tanzania Revenue Authority, port authorities, clearing agents, shipping lines and other stakeholders to secure timely cargo release.
• Monitor shipment status at customs points, identify potential delays and resolve issues proactively.
• Calculate duties, taxes and government charges, verify accuracy and ensure compliance with Tanzanian customs laws.
• Maintain up‑to‑date records of all customs transactions, documentation and correspondence for reporting and audit purposes.
• Communicate customs status updates and possible issues to operations, customer service and management teams.
• Assist in optimizing customs procedures to reduce clearance time and costs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Customs & Tax Management or a related field.
• At least 2 years of experience in customs clearance, freight forwarding or clearing and forwarding operations.
• Strong knowledge of Tanzanian customs laws, procedures and documentation requirements.
• Excellent communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
• Attention to detail, strong organizational abilities and capacity to work in a fast‑paced logistics environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with customs‑related systems.
• Experience with freight forwarding software.
