Head of Operations – Zanzibar

About the role

dnata Zanzibar is seeking a senior leader to direct all airport operational functions at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport. The Head of Operations will ensure safe, compliant, and cost‑effective flight handling while driving operational excellence and strategic project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all airport operational departments (Customer Service, Aircraft Appearance, Turnaround, Baggage, Load Control, Cargo).
• Develop and cascade the Airport Operations strategy, aligning departmental plans and ensuring implementation.
• Establish policies, systems, processes and controls to meet operational, regulatory and legislative requirements.
• Lead budget preparation, consolidation and financial performance monitoring to ensure cost control and profitability.
• Maintain high service standards for airlines, cargo agents and private customers while ensuring efficient service delivery.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal departments, airport authorities and external stakeholders.
• Lead and deliver assigned projects on time, within scope and budget, ensuring clear objectives, governance and adequate resourcing.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in airport or aviation operations.
• Strong track record of managing multi‑disciplinary teams and large budgets.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement operational strategies.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience working with regulatory bodies and ensuring compliance.
