Compliance Officer

About the role

The Compliance Officer works with all stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks that could impede Jhpiego’s mission. Reporting to the Compliance Manager, the role provides guidance, training, and oversight across procurement, inventory, sub‑recipient monitoring, project compliance, and financial management.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Compliance Manager in maintaining effective internal control processes and systems.
• Conduct desk reviews and spot‑checks to verify project compliance with donor rules, organizational policies, and applicable U.S. and host‑country laws.
• Identify, analyze, and manage project‑specific risks, ensuring implementation of mitigation plans.
• Review QuickBooks transactions for correct project charging, flagging disallowed costs and misalignments.
• Develop an annual compliance review work plan and perform monitoring visits to sub‑recipients.
• Lead special investigations, analytical projects, and develop best‑practice guides for internal controls.
• Provide country‑level compliance training and report suspected fraud to senior leadership.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
• 7+ years of internal or external audit experience.
• International work experience, preferably in developing countries with NGOs or grant‑making entities.
• Willingness to travel domestically and throughout the country.
