Backfill Superintendent – Mining Operations

About the role

The Backfill Superintendent will lead all backfill activities for our underground mining operations, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence. This senior position reports to the project management team and works closely with engineers and other superintendents.

Key responsibilities

• Enforce safety protocols, regulatory compliance, and environmental standards for backfill work.
• Oversee daily backfill preparation, transport, and placement of material.
• Coordinate backfill schedules with overall project timelines.
• Implement QA/QC measures to meet engineering specifications such as strength and compaction.
• Manage staff, equipment (pumps, pipelines, heavy machinery) and material procurement.
• Hire, train, and supervise the backfill team, providing technical guidance.
• Prepare detailed reports on progress, costs, and safety incidents.
• Resolve technical and operational issues during the backfill process.

Required profile

• Degree in Mining, Civil, Geological, or related engineering field.
• Specialization in Ground Control, Geotechnical Engineering, or Rock Mechanics preferred.
• Valid Tanzanian driver’s license and Mine Overseers Certificate of Competency (advantageous).
• Minimum 10 years underground mining experience, with at least 5 years in backfill design/placement.
• Proven supervisory or management experience.
