Senior Climate Screening & E&S Safeguards Expert

About the role

NTU International is seeking a senior expert to lead climate risk screening and environmental & social safeguards for a EU‑funded transport governance project across the ECOWAS region. The role will support the integration of climate resilience, sustainability and social inclusion into regional transport infrastructure planning and implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct and review climate resilience assessments and environmental & social impact assessments (ESIAs) for transport projects and corridors.
• Develop and validate environmental and social management plans (ESMPs), resettlement frameworks and stakeholder engagement plans.
• Provide technical advice on EU and international E&S safeguard standards and climate mainstreaming.
• Support the preparation of safeguard documentation, monitoring, reporting and quality assurance.
• Deliver capacity‑building workshops, technical training and guidance on climate screening and safeguards.
• Advise ECOWAS institutions and national stakeholders on compliance and sustainable infrastructure solutions.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in environmental sciences, engineering, climate change, sustainability, social development or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in environmental & social safeguards, climate resilience or sustainable infrastructure development.
• Proven experience on infrastructure or transport projects in developing countries, preferably Sub‑Saharan Africa.
• Experience with international development cooperation and donor‑funded programmes.
