Pre‑Admission Testing Registered Nurse

About the role

The Pre‑Admission Testing Registered Nurse conducts comprehensive assessments and pre‑operative testing for surgical patients. Working closely with physicians, anesthesiologists, and the surgical team, the RN ensures patients are fully prepared and informed before their procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Perform detailed pre‑admission assessments, reviewing medical history, medications, allergies, and prior surgeries.
• Order and conduct required pre‑operative tests such as blood work, EKGs, and other diagnostics according to facility guidelines.
• Educate patients on fasting, medication adjustments, and post‑operative care instructions.
• Verify and obtain up‑to‑date consent forms and ensure all documentation is complete.
• Document vital signs, exam findings, and test results in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Collaborate with the surgical team to discuss findings and recommend care plan adjustments.
• Provide emotional support and answer patient questions, maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
• Participate in quality‑improvement initiatives and perform point‑of‑care laboratory testing as needed.

Required profile

• Active RN license in the state of practice.
• Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferably in peri‑operative or surgical services.
• Experience with pre‑admission testing, patient education, or post‑operative care is highly preferred.
• Current BLS certification; ACLS certification preferred.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and common pre‑operative procedures.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
• Microsoft Office Suite competency.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (preferred).
• Point‑of‑Care laboratory testing.
