Mining Technician – Drill & Blast

About the role

The Mining Technician will support underground mining operations, focusing on drill and blast activities. Reporting to the Mining Engineer, the role involves designing blast patterns, monitoring compliance, and contributing to cost‑effective blasting practices.

Key responsibilities

• Design drill and blast patterns in line with approved standards.
• Monitor and report compliance with drill and blast standards, reviewing blast data from production drilling, bulk explosive loading and blasting.
• Coordinate QA/QC activities, including blast vibration monitoring, fragmentation analysis, dilution monitoring and ore loss assessment.
• Participate in drill and blast projects and provide monthly data to other departments.
• Track powder factors, bulk explosives and consumables usage against budget.
• Assist in incident investigations related to explosives, such as misfires, flyrock and excessive vibrations.
• Apply safety and health policies, conduct cost planning and reconcile performance against plans.
• Support monitoring of the underground daily production plan.

Required profile

• Experience in underground mining operations, preferably in the drill and blast section.
• Diploma in Mining Engineering or a related field.
• Valid drilling and blasting certificate (BS).
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
