Maintenance Manager - Luxury Lodges and Camps

About the role

A hospitality company represented by Shugulika Africa Limited is looking for an experienced Maintenance Manager in Arusha to oversee the upkeep, repair and preventive maintenance of lodges, camps and their infrastructure. The role balances technical expertise, operational efficiency and aesthetic sensitivity so that facilities meet high standards of luxury hospitality while harmonising with the natural environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee preventative and corrective maintenance of structures, guest rooms, staff accommodation, machinery, generators, water systems and waste management facilities.
• Ensure continuous operation of power systems (solar, generator, hybrid), boreholes, water reticulation and hot water systems.
• Implement and monitor preventive maintenance schedules to minimise downtime and reduce costs.
• Make sure repairs and maintenance meet high-end hospitality presentation standards (finishing, painting, landscaping, lighting).
• Work with managers to keep camps and lodges visually harmonious with their surroundings, and supervise landscaping, pathways, signage, lighting and exterior spaces.
• Inspect guest-facing areas regularly and lead, train and mentor the maintenance team, fostering a safety culture and eco-friendly practices.
• Monitor and report energy and water consumption, promote compliance with environmental guidelines and develop annual maintenance budgets.
• Track inventory of tools, spare parts and materials, report on maintenance status and contribute to capital projects and refurbishments.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum 5-7 years' experience in maintenance management, preferably in high-end East African lodges.
• Proven ability to manage hybrid power systems, water treatment and critical infrastructure, and leadership experience with multi-skilled teams.
• Willingness to travel to the bush where camps and lodges are based when needed.
• Stable employment history, strong leadership, communication and budget management skills, and adaptability in remote environments.

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, solar, plumbing and water systems.
• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Strong technical problem-solving, planning, organisational and project management abilities.
