Laboratory Technician – Refinery Operations

About the role

We are looking for a meticulous Laboratory Technician to lead daily laboratory activities at a large‑scale refinery in Bagamoyo. The role supports production and quality teams by delivering accurate test results and ensuring compliance with laboratory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct physical and chemical analysis of raw materials, in‑process samples, and finished products.
• Monitor laboratory workflow to guarantee timely and accurate test completion.
• Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Record, analyze, and prepare detailed laboratory test reports with full data integrity.
• Investigate abnormal results, identify root causes, and communicate findings to relevant teams.
• Maintain laboratory safety, environmental compliance, and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
• Manage chemicals, reagents, consumables and ensure adequate stock levels.
• Support internal quality inspections, audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide technical guidance to junior laboratory staff as needed.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related physical science.
• 3–5 years of hands‑on laboratory experience, preferably in oil & gas, petrochemical or refinery environments.
• Strong understanding of laboratory testing methods, quality control procedures and analytical equipment.
• Familiarity with industry standards, safety requirements and GLP.
• Ability to prepare technical reports, analyse data and troubleshoot testing issues.
