Inventory Accountant

About the role

The Inventory Accountant will manage the valuation, control and reporting of all inventories for a large‑scale gold mine in Tanzania. This includes consumables, spares, fuel, reagents, explosives, ore stockpiles and gold‑in‑process, supporting cost control, production reporting and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate inventory records in the ERP system for all warehouses and stock locations.
• Apply appropriate valuation methods (weighted average, standard cost) in line with company policy, IFRS and IAS 2.
• Calculate and post monthly inventory adjustments, including movements, cost allocations, shrinkage and write‑downs.
• Prepare monthly valuation reports and reconcile inventory sub‑ledgers to the general ledger.
• Perform detailed reconciliations between physical stock, inventory module and GL balances, investigating discrepancies.
• Coordinate month‑end cut‑off procedures, prepare inventory‑related journals and provide commentary for management reporting.
• Analyse inventory usage by department, cost centre and project, supporting cost control and budgeting initiatives.
• Lead periodic stocktakes and cycle counts, develop procedures and strengthen internal controls.
• Monitor slow‑moving and obsolete stock, prepare ageing analyses and calculate appropriate provisions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in inventory accounting, preferably within the mining or heavy‑industry sector.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS, IAS 2 and inventory valuation principles.
• Ability to work with large data sets, perform reconciliations and produce accurate financial reports.
• Excellent analytical skills to identify variances and support cost‑control initiatives.
• Detail‑oriented with a solid understanding of internal control frameworks.
