Information Technology Field Engineer

About the role

Ahead Africa, a Tanzania‑based ICT and Managed IT Service Provider, is looking for a hands‑on IT Field Engineer to deploy, troubleshoot and maintain networking and security infrastructure at client sites. You will work directly with customers, ensuring reliable connectivity, structured cabling, and security solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure and support routers, switches, access points and firewalls (MikroTik, Ubiquiti, Cisco/HP/Aruba, Fortinet, Sophos).
• Diagnose and resolve hardware, software and connectivity issues both onsite and remotely.
• Conduct site surveys, prepare Bills of Quantities and execute new installations or upgrades.
• Implement and certify structured cabling (UTP/fiber, racks, patch panels) following TIA/EIA standards.
• Deploy and support biometric/access‑control devices, CCTV/Surveillance (NVR/ONVIF) and IP‑PBX/VoIP solutions.
• Support internet services, VPNs, cloud workloads, Microsoft 365/Email and basic server roles.
• Maintain accurate documentation of topologies, configurations and service reports.
• Provide user training, handovers and collaborate with project and sales teams.
• Adhere to HSE standards and client SOPs at all job sites.

Required profile

• Degree or Diploma in IT, Computer Science, Telecoms or related field.
• 2–4 years of field experience in ICT/network engineering.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, NAT, DNS, DHCP and QoS.
• Hands‑on experience with structured cabling, crimping, splicing and testing (OTDR, Fluke).
• Excellent troubleshooting, documentation and customer communication skills.
