HR Officer

About the role

Shugulika Africa Limited is looking for an HR Officer in Dar es Salaam to support and execute core human resource functions. The role covers recruitment, employee records, onboarding, performance support, payroll coordination, employee relations and keeping the workplace productive and compliant. The ideal candidate speaks both Swahili and English, knows labour legislation well and can handle several HR priorities at once.

Key responsibilities

• Manage recruitment end to end: prepare job descriptions, advertise vacancies, screen candidates and coordinate hiring.
• Maintain accurate employee records and personnel files, in physical and electronic form.
• Coordinate onboarding and orientation for new hires and support training and development.
• Monitor performance and help managers with performance processes; promote employee engagement.
• Advise employees and management on HR policies and procedures and ensure compliance with employment laws and company policies.
• Support payroll processing and employee benefits, and resolve employee concerns and workplace conflicts.
• Support health, safety and wellbeing initiatives, prepare HR reports and keep HR documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management or a related field.
• At least 3 years of relevant HR experience.
• Strong understanding of employment legislation and HR best practices.
• Excellent verbal and written communication in English and Swahili, with a high level of confidentiality.
• Negotiation, conflict resolution and decision-making skills, and strong organisation and time management.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Additional certification in Payroll Management or Labour Relations is an added advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency in HR systems and Microsoft Office applications.
