Cashier – Banking & Reconciliation

About the role

The Cashier will be responsible for processing all cash, debit, credit and cheque transactions using the company's core system. This role ensures accurate daily receipting, balancing of sales reports, and timely banking of cash and cheques.

Key responsibilities

• Process customer and intermediary payments (cash, debit card, credit card, cheque) in the core computer system.
• Record all company revenue and generate corresponding receipts.
• Maintain strong internal controls over cash collection and safeguard against loss.
• Prepare daily bank lodgements, reconcile cash reports, and verify accuracy.
• Administer petty cash and other floats, ensuring policy compliance and daily reconciliation.
• Document returned cheques and coordinate follow‑up for collection.
• Alert the Senior Accountant of large cash collections exceeding set limits.
• Manage cashier inventory (stamps, receipt paper, lodgement books) and monitor fraudulent notes or cheques.
• Prepare weekly cash position forecasts for the CFO.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
• 2–3 years of experience in a similar cashier or finance role.
• Familiarity with Britam products and services is an advantage.

Required skills

• Cash handling and reconciliation.
• Basic accounting and record keeping.
• Knowledge of smart policy.
• Knowledge of payment methods (cash, card, mobile money, online banking).
