Workshop Manager – Fleet Maintenance

About the role

Our client, a leading logistics and transportation company operating a large fleet of heavy‑duty trucks and tankers across East and Central Africa, is seeking an experienced Workshop Manager to lead workshop operations, ensure fleet reliability, and drive operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all workshop and fleet maintenance activities, including preventive and corrective programmes.
• Monitor maintenance costs, implement cost‑control measures and manage workshop budgets.
• Oversee spare‑parts inventory and procurement planning.
• Supervise mechanics, technicians, electricians, welders and workshop supervisors.
• Investigate major mechanical failures and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with manufacturer maintenance standards, safety and environmental regulations.
• Coordinate with external service providers and manage related contracts.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Transport Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of workshop management experience in logistics, transportation, fleet management or heavy‑equipment sectors.
• Proven experience leading technical and maintenance teams and managing fleets of over 200 heavy commercial vehicles.
• Strong planning, budgeting and inventory‑management capabilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with maintenance management systems.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Office applications.
