Volunteer Epidemiologist Assistant

About the role

Amref Health Africa Tanzania is seeking a volunteer Epidemiologist Assistant to support the Global Health Security Priorities (GHSA) project. The role focuses on strengthening event‑based surveillance (EBS) across mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, mentoring surveillance officers and ensuring effective data management.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in coordinating project activities, including planning, implementation, reporting to CDC, and liaising with the Ministry of Health, PORALG and partner organisations.
• Mentor surveillance officers on daily EBS activities at community level in Kagera region.
• Strengthen management of alert desks in Kagera, Kigoma and Mwanza regions.
• Support the development and implementation of regional EBS mini‑plans in collaboration with regional and council health management teams.
• Facilitate data management, utilisation and reporting to ensure sustainability after project phase‑out.

Required profile

• Background in epidemiology, public health or a related field.
• Experience or familiarity with event‑based surveillance and health data management.
• Ability to work collaboratively with government health authorities and partner organisations.
• Strong communication and mentoring skills for community‑level engagement.
