Ultrasound Tech – PRN (Call Only)

About the role

This position provides on‑call, per‑diem ultrasound services in a hospital radiology department. Working under indirect supervision of a radiologist, the Ultrasound Tech delivers diagnostic imaging and assists with invasive procedures while ensuring patient safety and comfort.

Key responsibilities

• Perform the full range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations according to radiologist protocols.
• Assist physicians with ultrasound‑guided biopsy procedures.
• Acquire, evaluate, and document ultrasound images, communicating findings to the radiologist.
• Operate and maintain imaging support equipment, including transducers, multi‑format cameras, printers, RIS and PACS systems.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and ensure the exam room is orderly and safe.
• Explain procedures to patients, answer questions, and alleviate anxiety.
• Enter orders and charge procedures in the RIS system.
• Perform high‑level disinfection of probes using the Trophon system.
• Report hazardous conditions or equipment issues promptly and attend required safety training.

Required profile

• Current registration with ARDMS in good standing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Credentialing in physics, vascular and abdominal ultrasound preferred.
• Ability to lift/carry 20 lb regularly and push/pull 25 lb.
• Capability to stand or walk at least five hours per day.

Required skills

• Diagnostic ultrasound imaging (including vascular and abdominal).
• Ultrasound‑guided biopsy assistance.
• Operation of RIS and PACS systems.
• Handling of transducers, cameras, and printers.
• High‑level probe disinfection using Trophon.
