Transport Officer

About the role

The Transport Officer supports Jhpiego’s operations by coordinating vehicle allocation, supervising drivers, and ensuring the fleet is safe, road‑worthy, and efficiently managed. Working under the Senior Manager, Operations, the role is pivotal for reliable transport services across Jhpiego projects in Tanzania.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate daily vehicle use for staff and program activities, ensuring timely allocation.
• Monitor vehicle status, schedule routine service, repairs, and maintenance, and report updates to senior management.
• Oversee fuel usage compliance, manage fuel cards, and provide weekly fuel reconciliation reports.
• Supervise drivers and lead drivers, enforce Vehicle Use SOPs, and handle performance issues.
• Maintain fleet management records, insurance, registration, and road‑worthiness documentation.
• Prepare requisitions for vehicle‑related procurements such as insurance, tools, and emergency repairs.
• Orient and train new drivers on policies, SOPs, and performance expectations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in vehicle or fleet coordination, preferably in an NGO or similar environment.
• Strong supervisory skills with the ability to manage drivers and ensure compliance with SOPs.
• Good understanding of vehicle maintenance, insurance, registration, and road safety requirements.
• Ability to prepare accurate reports, requisitions, and fuel reconciliation summaries.
• Excellent communication skills to liaise with program staff, senior managers, and external service providers.
