Technical Trainer – Open Cast Mining

About the role

The Technical Trainer – Open Cast is responsible for delivering, assessing and verifying technical, operational and safety training for open‑cast mining personnel. Working closely with the Training Coordinator, supervisors and subject‑matter experts, the role ensures that employees and contractors acquire the skills needed to work safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver classroom, practical, field‑based and on‑the‑job training programmes for new hires and role‑specific needs.
• Assess and verify competence against approved standards, conduct workplace observations and maintain assessment evidence.
• Develop and coach mobile equipment operators through structured progression pathways.
• Provide mandatory safety and regulatory training, monitor completion and support audit requirements.
• Create and update training materials, presentations, guides and digital resources, including LMS content.

Required profile

• Experience in delivering technical training within the mining or heavy‑equipment sector.
• Strong understanding of operational, safety and regulatory standards for open‑cast operations.
• Ability to work collaboratively with supervisors, coordinators and subject‑matter experts.
• Excellent communication and instructional skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Damstra LMS or similar learning management systems.
• Hands‑on knowledge of mobile mining equipment operation and maintenance.
