Sterile Processing Technician (PRN)

About the role

The Sterile Processing Technician (PRN) ensures that all medical instruments and devices are cleaned, inspected, sterilized, and prepared for safe patient use. This position works on an as‑needed basis within a healthcare environment, following strict sterilization protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Adhere to sterilization policies and clean each item per manufacturer instructions.
• Inspect instruments under a microscope for damage, lubricate as required, and verify functionality.
• Sort, arrange, wrap, and label trays and individual items according to established procedures.
• Operate sterilizers, ultrasonic washers, and related equipment, selecting appropriate cycles and monitoring indicators.
• Perform biological monitoring tests and maintain sterilizer cleanliness.
• Maintain inventory levels, update instrument ray lists, and manage preference cards.
• Conduct weekly inspections of sterile items, replace outdated or compromised packages, and document laundry counts.

Required profile

• SPD certification and demonstrated understanding of sterilization principles.
• Experience in central processing functions preferred.
• Strong English communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry 20 lb, push/pull 25 lb, and stand/walk for at least five hours daily.
• Category I exposure to bloodborne pathogens and frequent chemical hazards.
