Specialist: Fibre Optic Design & Planning

About the role

The Fibre Optic Design & Planning Specialist will lead the planning, design, optimisation and governance of Vodafone's fibre network infrastructure, supporting FTTH, FTTx, FTTS, transport and enterprise connectivity services. This role ensures that network solutions are scalable, resilient, secure and cost‑effective while meeting group standards and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Design and optimise fibre network architectures for FTTH, FTTx, FTTS, metro, backbone and enterprise services, including ODN design and fibre allocation.
• Conduct feasibility studies, plan fibre routes, ducts and aerial infrastructure, and maintain accurate GIS, KMZ and as‑built records.
• Provide technical and commercial input for business cases, investment plans and procurement documents.
• Evaluate suppliers and technologies to ensure cost‑effective, sustainable fibre investments.
• Ensure designs comply with Vodafone architecture, security, engineering and regulatory standards.
• Forecast fibre capacity and demand, develop expansion strategies and define technology roadmaps.

Required profile

• Proven expertise in fibre network design and optimisation for FTTH/FTTx/FTTS, GPON, XGS‑PON and metro/backbone environments.
• Strong knowledge of ODN design, route planning, duct and aerial network deployment.
• Experience in capacity modelling, demand forecasting and resilience planning.
• Familiarity with optical transport technologies, OTN, IP/MPLS and Vodafone architecture requirements.
