Real Sector Statistics Advisor – AFRITAC East

About the role

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is seeking a Real Sector Statistics Advisor (RSSA) for its African Regional Technical Assistance Center in East Africa (AFRITAC East). Based in Dar es Salaam, the RSSA will lead capacity development in national accounts, price indices and other real‑sector statistics across eight East African countries.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and manage an annual work programme for statistical capacity development in national accounts and price statistics.
• Coordinate capacity‑development activities with IMF departments, international institutions and bilateral agencies.
• Conduct technical assistance missions and deliver regional training on national accounts and price statistics.
• Manage short‑term expert missions and ensure compliance with IMF standards and STA guidelines.
• Monitor implementation and evaluation of activities through the IMF CDMAP IT portal and contribute to reports for the AFRITAC East Steering Committee.

Required profile

• At least ten years of professional experience in national accounts methodology and compilation.
• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in economics, statistics or a related field.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
• Strong relationship‑management, negotiation and influencing abilities.
• Proven ability to organise and coordinate capacity‑development support under tight deadlines.

Required skills

• Expert knowledge of national accounts statistics.
• Experience with price indices and other real‑sector statistical frameworks.
• Familiarity with IMF standards, STA guidelines and the CDMAP IT portal.
