Project Accountant – AFAWA Women Entrepreneurship Project

About the role

The Project Accountant will support the AFAWA project, which aims to strengthen the entrepreneurship skills of women‑led businesses and women employees in ETG’s agribusiness supply chains across Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Reporting to the Consortium Lead, the accountant will ensure accurate financial management of this donor‑funded initiative.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit regular financial reports for the multi‑country project.
• Develop and monitor project budgets, ensuring alignment with donor requirements.
• Maintain compliance with African Development Bank and other donor regulations.
• Coordinate audit preparation and respond to auditor queries.
• Manage multi‑currency transactions and foreign exchange considerations.
• Travel to implementation sites across the four countries as needed to verify expenditures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field (master’s degree and CPA/ACCA preferred).
• Minimum 5 years experience in project accounting or financial management of donor‑funded programmes.
• Fluency in English; working knowledge of Portuguese or Swahili is an advantage.
• High integrity, strong attention to detail and willingness to travel.

Required skills

• Advanced MS Excel.
• Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks or SAP.
