Programme Officer – Early Childhood Development (ECD) – Zanzibar

About the role

The Programme Officer will support the implementation of the Strengthening Zanzibar's Multisectoral Early Childhood Development (ECD) Programme, delivering quality, equitable, community‑based nurturing care services for children aged 0‑3 years across targeted districts. Working closely with government counterparts, community structures and local partners, the officer will help ensure effective delivery of project activities and achievement of results.

Key responsibilities

• Support the rollout of community‑based childcare services and caregiver support initiatives.
• Assist in workforce development and gender‑responsive ECD system strengthening.
• Coordinate with CBOs, FBOs, women’s collectives and childcare providers to ensure quality implementation.
• Contribute to monitoring, learning and reporting processes.
• Help strengthen government systems related to early childhood development.

Required profile

• Experience in implementing multisectoral early childhood development programmes.
• Familiarity with community‑based childcare services and caregiver support mechanisms.
• Ability to collaborate with government agencies, NGOs and local stakeholder groups.
• Understanding of gender‑responsive approaches in ECD.
• Strong monitoring and learning orientation.
