Patient Care Assistant

About the role

The Patient Care Assistant provides essential support to patients and clinical staff in a hospital setting. This role involves a mix of clerical duties, direct patient care, and assistance during medical procedures, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for patients.

Key responsibilities

• Perform general receptionist and clerical duties as needed.
• Observe, report, and respond to patients' status and needs, including answering call lights.
• Transport specimens to the laboratory when required.
• Assist with patient transfers, repositioning, and daily hygiene tasks.
• Support turnover of pre‑op/PACU bays and operating rooms, including moving instruments.
• Assist or observe physicians and nurses during examinations and treatments.
• Maintain current certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS) and attend required trainings and safety programs.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; currently pursuing a healthcare‑related college degree.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at time of hire.
• Ability to work safely in environments with exposure to blood‑borne pathogens, chemicals, and possible radiation hazards.
• Physical ability to lift/carry over 20 lb, push/pull over 25 lb, and stand or walk for at least five hours per day.
