Optometrist – Dar es Salaam

About the role

An established optical store in Dar es Salaam is seeking a highly experienced, patient‑focused Optometrist to deliver premium eye‑care services. The role combines comprehensive clinical examinations with advanced progressive lens dispensing and pediatric vision care.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct detailed eye examinations for patients of all ages, diagnosing refractive errors and assessing binocular vision, ocular motility, accommodation and vergence.
• Perform visual acuity testing and refraction using both manual and automated techniques, including retinoscopy and ophthalmoscopy.
• Provide accurate prescriptions for spectacles, lenses and visual aids, and refer patients for ophthalmological or medical management when needed.
• Measure, fit, dispense and troubleshoot progressive lenses, including monocular PD, fitting height, pantoscopic tilt, wrap angle and vertex distance.
• Educate patients on progressive lens adaptation, usage and care, and resolve any related complaints.
• Collaborate with optical staff and laboratories to ensure precision in lens production.
• Stay updated with modern diagnostic and optical equipment and premium ophthalmic lens technologies.

Required profile

• Degree in Optometry (mandatory) and valid professional licensing to practice.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience as an Optometrist.
• Diploma in Orthoptics is a strong advantage.
• Proven expertise in comprehensive eye examinations, progressive lens fitting and pediatric vision care.
• Strong ethical standards, excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and within a team.
