Learning and Development Manager

About the role

A leading agricultural company in Tanzania, represented by Shugulika Africa Limited, is looking for a Learning and Development Manager to lead its talent development initiatives. The role reports to the HR Director and covers performance management, training needs identification and learning strategies that support both organizational goals and agricultural practices. It suits a hands-on leader who designs and delivers learning programs, fosters engagement and strengthens succession pipelines.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the performance management system so it aligns with the annual business strategy, and guide managers in addressing underperformance through Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs)
• Implement recognition and incentive programs, coach managers and staff on performance issues, and analyze performance trends to recommend improvements
• Evaluate the performance management framework continuously and adjust it as needed
• Conduct competency assessments to identify skills required for each role and current gaps, and run organization-wide learning needs assessments to create an annual L&D calendar
• Manage the training budget, deliver training programs, and run pre- and post-training assessments to measure learning outcomes
• Coordinate learning projects, data analysis and reporting, and prepare performance dashboards and analytics
• Develop and oversee a succession planning strategy for critical roles, organize recognition events, and administer incentives and rewards

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Agricultural Sciences or a related field (required); Master's in Business Administration (HRM) or related field preferred
• Minimum of 8 years' experience in People and Culture, preferably in the agricultural sector
• Proficiency in written and spoken English and Swahili
• Proven experience in training, facilitation and mentoring
• Familiarity with agricultural practices and sustainability models is advantageous
