L&D Superintendent – Operational Excellence Mining & Field Operations

About the role

The L&D Superintendent will lead the development and delivery of mining training programmes that support operational excellence across both underground and open‑pit operations. Reporting to senior mining leadership, the role ensures that workforce capability aligns with life‑of‑mine plans and strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the annual Mining Training and Capability Development Strategy.
• Partner with mining managers, superintendents and technical services to identify current and future capability needs.
• Lead competency development programmes for underground production, jumbo operations, long‑hole drilling, development mining, charge‑up, load‑haul, ground support and service crew functions.
• Design and manage training pathways for open‑pit equipment operators and supervisors, covering excavators, haul trucks, dozers, graders, drills and shovels.
• Establish competency standards, assessment processes and monitoring of training compliance.
• Oversee simulator‑based learning programmes and progressive operator development from trainee to competent operator.
• Support the introduction of new mining methods, technologies and operational excellence initiatives through targeted learning interventions.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading learning and development functions in underground and open‑pit mining environments.
• Strong understanding of mining equipment operations and competency assessment frameworks.
• Ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams to align training with operational goals.
• Demonstrated track record of developing sustainable learning pathways and succession plans.
