Financial Compliance Officer

About the role

The Financial Compliance Officer provides specialised finance and accounting services for the Africa Region business unit, ensuring audit, taxation, return filing and other regulatory requirements are met. The role is based in one of TNC’s regional offices – Arusha, Cape Town or Nairobi – and supports staff at all levels with complex financial queries.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate internal, external, donor, tax and statutory audits, manage auditors and ensure timely completion of corrective action plans.
• Maintain audit trails, register audit recommendations and track their implementation to closure.
• Identify financial compliance risks, develop solutions and support regional programmes in implementing them.
• Conduct regular transaction reviews, fraud investigations and compliance assessments, providing analysis and recommendations.
• Ensure timely tax, statutory filings and regulatory certifications, liaising with accounting vendors and finance specialists.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in audit, tax, financial reporting or related compliance functions.
• Professional certification such as CPA, ACCA or CIA (or equivalent).
• Valid driver’s licence and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and spreadsheet modelling.
• Experience with relational databases and accounting software packages.
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting systems and general‑ledger reporting.
• Expertise in audit coordination and tax compliance for not‑for‑profit organisations.
